There are many important standards for ELA education, but I specifically focused on the grade 11-12 standard about implementing digital media in the classroom (LAFS.1112.SL.2.5). This standard discusses the use of various software to enhance a teacher's ability to deliver and teach information. While I can't claim I am an expert in powerpoint, photoshop, or adobe premiere, I do have a good amount experience with all of these programs, and I would feel comfortable using them for educational purposes. For example, I have made educational videos in the past on Adobe premiere, and I have taught from self-made slide shows as well.
On the CPALMS website, I looked into the "Analyzing Poems of Spring" tutorial series that demonstrates how to analyze and begin to understand poems by looking at the poem Lines Written in Early Spring. The tutorial goes line by line, analyzing word choice, form, and the tutorial even includes sections where students can practice analyzation for themselves. I would include this in my classroom as an extra help tool to guide students who need practice/help in the analyzation of poetry and literature in general. I know I have a hard time in analyzing poetry, so I think this tutorial would be a great resource for students who are having a hard time in this area.
Internet searching is an important skill for not only teachers, but for people in general. Since the internet is the primary source of information in the 21st century, it is vital to understand search engines, and how to find information in an efficient way. Teachers need to understand how to search for information while creating presentations, researching for lesson plans, and for figuring out the best strategies for educating students. I think the most important skill we learned this week was using an internet database, such as the FSU Library, and then applying the proper filters to enhance your searches. This is a universal skill that I think everybody needs to know.
